Adopt-A-Family 2014

I am happy to say that ADOPT-A-FAMILY 2014 has been completed. It was a great success!
We touched the lives of 15 financially challenged families with a child that has cancer and is in treatment at Jonathan Jaques Cancer Center at Miller Children's Hospital. We tried our best to fulfill the wishes of the family as well as the child with cancer. Each family receives a food card to help them buy groceries for their holiday dinner.

We are in DESPERATE need of HOLIDAY GIFT BAGS OF ALL SIZES and WRAPPING PAPER TOO.  WE NEED AS MANY GIFT BAGS AS POSSIBLE FOR NEXT YEAR.  IF YOU CAN, PLEASE DO A BLESSING AND DONATE SOME.  THANKS!!

A huge help to us every year is the Long Beach Fire Department's program, "SPARK OF LOVE."

They gave us a big box filled with toys, I give a big hug and thanks to Firefighter Will Nash & his crew for making it happen. Thanks guys!

We are extremely grateful and give so much thanks to the many members of the Cancer League that gave up and above the donation of their dues. So many of you that donated in so many ways with checks, gift cards, wrapping paper and many needed gift items. It could not be done without your help. .

Mark DuBose from PODS continued the tradition and donated again for the sixth year a PODS Storage Container that helped us with storing and organizing the gifts. Special thanks again to the City of Long Beach, Department of Public Works for waiving the cost of a street permit.

Thanks to Ray Bond's website talents, more and more people are finding our Adopt A Family Program, using Google. Dentist Dr. John Rose found us and their office donated a large box of toys.

Diane Hara joined us again for another year adopting 2 families of her own. She is always so generous, her donation included 2 bikes and 2 razor scooters in addition to the other wishes of the families.

Many other individuals were also able to make contact with our Adopt A family program to either donate or offer their time to wrap gifts. Jill Dufau and her family donated gift items and Jill helped wrap gifts. Nancy Shafer donated so many wonderful toys and clothing.

Thank you to Mayor Pro Tem (of Cypress) Mariellen Yarc and husband Paul Lussman who held a raffle at their home. They gave out tickets to people that brought an unwrapped toy...the prize was a large flat screen TV! Adopt A Family received a generous donation of toys. Check out this link:

Charlie Feder at Rossmoor Pastries for his continued generosity donating 12 dozen cookies for our cookie drive each year. You can order tasty treats from Rossmoor Pastries all year long!

Big kudos to Gail Levy who organizes the cookie drive every year.

Newcomb Academy and teacher Alyson Al-Mulla (Gail Levy's Daughter) for collecting toys to donate for our Adopt A Family Program. We appreciate their continued support.

Beatriz Nieves and the Millikan High School's B-C.H.I.L. Club for their many hours of gift wrapping.

Pilar Pinel and her son Chris who made all the deliveries to Jonathan Jaques Cancer Center. Thank you for your commitment to our cause!

And Joan Mizubayashi for her unending devotion for our cause and who is truly an "honorary" Cancer League Member. I could not do this without her!

Ruby Mizubayashi for her generous donation of handmade afghans for the patients and all the time it takes to make them throughout the year.

My handyman Chris Angermayer who helps throughout the year organizing and storing all the items that I acquire and helping us in so many other ways.

Thanks to my husband Wayne for his continued support and endless patience with two months of a house filled from end to end with Elmos, Barbie's, and toys that "talk" when you walk past them.

Individual thank you letters will go out shortly. Keep in mind we collect toys and gift items throughout the year so do not hesitate to contact me if you have a donation for Adopt A Family. Believe it or not, we are already "planning" for 2015! (If you are looking for a place to "re-gift" any holiday presents that weren't on your list...keep us in mind).
